Agriculture sector plays an important role in country’s economy as almost half of the population is dependent on it for livelihood. The sector in recent times is witnessing some concerns but has to its credit a good number of success stories such as green, white, pink and yellow revolutions and which is well supported with the country’s production ranking for milk, fruits and vegetables at global level. The capacity building of farmers, field functionaries and other stakeholders needs to be strengthened to achieve the target of doubling the income of farmers by the year 2022.
The sector is shifting towards the second green revolution based on improving the productivity, taking agriculture to untapped agro-climatic regions, adoption of new hi-tech technologies, integrated watershed management, adaptation to climate change, protected cultivation, precision farming and realizing the potential of secondary agriculture i.e. post-harvest management, food processing and better agricultural marketing. The present-day farmer should be able to adopt modern agronomic practices and new technologies in harmony with the indigenous practices and local realities to increase productivity with sustainable agriculture.
The need of the hour is to generate awareness, share knowledge and inculcate skills among all the stakeholders of the sector, with focus particularly on farmers, agriculture youth, field level functionaries, on the new interventions, be it schematic or technological, to achieve the set targets within a given time framework.
The Direct-to-Home (DTH) television (the SWAYAM Prabha channels) is the new paradigm in extending quality education at the door steps of the learners. The DTH TV channel namely “Agriculture (Vocational) and Allied Sciences” is one of the channel under SWAYAM Prabha project of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The Agriculture channel christened as “Krishi Gyan Vigyan (कृषि ज्ञान विज्ञान)" with a tag line “Krishi Shiksa ek Naye Aayam Mein (कृषि शिक्षा एक नए आयाम में)” aims to extend outreach of agriculture education by offering a range of multi–media educational contents on various disciplines of agriculture and allied sectors and structuring them at awareness, certificate and diploma level courses for development of skills, entrepreneurship and professionalism in agriculture and allied sectors. The channel provides curricula and courses that meet the educational requirements of lifelong learners. The channel is expected to improve and sustain the quality of human life and productivity of agriculture and allied sectors by extending the outreach of agriculture education.

देष की अर्थव्यवस्था में कृशि क्षेत्र महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है क्योंकि देष की आधी आबादी की आजीविका इस क्षेत्र पर निर्भर हैं। हाल के दिनों में कृशि क्षेत्र में कुछ चिंताए उभर रहीं हैं हालांकि कृशि क्षेत्र के नाम बहुत सफलताएं हैं, जिनमें हरित क्रांति, सफेद क्रांति, पीली क्रांति आदि प्रमुख हैं। इन सफलताओं का पता हमें वैष्विक स्तर पर दूध, फल और सब्जियों के उत्पादन में देष की रैंकिग से लगता हैं। किसानों की आय को वर्श 2022 तक दुगना करने के लक्ष्य को हासिल करने के लिए किसानों, जमीनी कार्यकर्ताओं एवं अन्य हितधरकों की क्षमता निर्माण को मजबूत करने की जरूरत है।.
कृशि क्षेत्र दुसरी हरित क्रांति की तरह बढ़ रहा हैं, जिसमें उत्पादकता में सुधार, अदोहित कृशि-जलवायु क्षेत्र, नई हाई-टेक प्रौद्योगिकियों को अपनाना, एकीकृत जल प्रबंधन, जलवायु परिवर्तन के अनुकूलन, संरक्षित खेती, सटीक खेती आदि षामिल हैं। साथ ही साथ द्वितियक कृशि जिसमें फसल कटाई बाद प्रबंधन, खाद्य प्रसंस्करण एवं बेहतर कृशि विपणन षामिल है की क्षमता को उपयोग करना जरूरी हैं। आज का किसान टिकाऊ कृशि के साथ उत्पादकता बढ़ाने के लिए पारम्परिक खेती एवं स्थानीय वास्तविकता के अनुरूप आधुनिक कृशि प्रक्रियाओं एवं नई तकनीकों के अपनाने में सक्षम होना चाहिए। एक निष्चित समय में निर्धारित लक्ष्यों की प्राप्ति हेतु, नए हस्तक्षेपों पर, चाहे योजनाबद्ध हो या तकनीकी हो, किसानों, युवाओं एवं जमीनी कार्यकर्ताओं के बीच जागरूकता पैदा करना, ज्ञान साझा करना और कौषल पैदा करना समय की आवष्यकता है।.
डायरेक्ट-टू-होम (डी.टी.एच.) टेलीविजन (स्वयंप्रभा) चैनल षिक्षार्थियों के दरवाजे पर गुणवत्ता युक्त षिक्षा पहुंचाने में नया प्रतिमान है। ”कृशि (व्यवसायिक) एवं सहयोगी विज्ञान“ नाम का डी.टी.एच. टीवी चैनल, मानव संसाधन विकाष मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार के स्वयंप्रभा परियोजना के तहत एक चैनल हैं। कृशि चैनल को ”कृशि ज्ञान विज्ञान“ के नाम से नामित किया गया है, जिसकी टेग लाईन ”कृशि षिक्षा एक नए आयाम में“ है। इसका उद्देष्य, कृशि एवं सम्बन्धित क्षेत्रों में कौषल, उद्मिता और व्यवसायिकता के विकाष के लिए बहु मीडिया षैक्षिक सामग्री का उपयोग करके जागरूकता, प्रमाण पत्र, और डिप्लोमा स्तर के कार्यक्रमों का निमाण करके, कृशि षिक्षा का विस्तार करना हैं। यह चैनल आजीवन षिक्षार्थियों के षैक्षणिक आवष्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए अध्ययन पाठ्यक्रम प्रदान करता है। चैनल के द्वारा कृशि षिक्षा का विस्तार करके कृशि एवं सम्बन्धित क्षेत्रों में मानव जीवन एवं उत्पादकता में सुधार एवं उसे सत्त करने में योगदान की उम्मीद हैं।
